The Surface Soil Sample Apparatus is a driven-tube sampler used to take samples of compacted fill or undisturbed soil at the ground surface, and to evaluate the density of compaction at that surface.
How It Works
A thin-walled sampling tube is driven into the compacted fill or undisturbed soil using a drop hammer of matched weight, recovering a sample with minimal disturbance for density evaluation and further laboratory testing.
